About the Animal Control Unit
The Animal Control Unit is a specialized function within the Patrol Division dedicated to protecting both the community and the welfare of animals within the City of Grain Valley. Officers respond to calls involving stray, injured, aggressive, or neglected animals, enforce city ordinances related to animal care and control, and work closely with residents to promote responsible pet ownership. The unit also assists with animal-related emergencies, bite investigations, nuisance complaints, and reunification of lost pets with their owners while supporting public safety and community quality of life.
Services Provided by Animal Control:
- Responds to calls involving stray, injured, aggressive, or nuisance animals
- Enforces city animal control ordinances and licensing requirements
- Investigates animal bites, neglect, cruelty, and abandonment complaints
- Assists with the capture and safe transport of animals
- Reunites lost pets with their owners whenever possible
- Coordinates with veterinarians, shelters, and rescue organizations
- Provides education on responsible pet ownership and animal safety
- Assists patrol officers and emergency personnel during animal-related incidents
- Addresses public safety concerns involving domestic and wild animals
- Supports community quality of life through proactive animal control services and placement/adoption
