On October 14, 2022, the City of Grain Valley was selected as a grant recipient for the Land and Water Conservation (LWCF) grant, federally funded by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks.

With the award, the City will begin the process of selecting and installing an all-inclusive playground in Armstrong Park. This is a cost share grant, in which the Department of Natural Resources will fund 30 percent of the total cost at $405,500.

Parks and Recreation Director, Shannon Davies says, “The existing playgrounds in Armstrong Park are nearing the end of their useful life. Having an all-inclusive playground would allow kids of all abilities to utilize the equipment.”

An all-inclusive playground includes an accessible path from the parking lot to the edge of the play area, an accessible path from the edge of the play area to the play equipment (such as rubber surfacing), and ADA compliant designs geared to promote both fun and challenge for users regardless of ability.

The project will be bid out early 2023 with the target completion goal of fall/winter 2023.
