The
Grain Valley Police Department provides
twenty-four (24) hour, seven day a week
protection to its citizens. The City of Grain
Valley is approximately 6 square miles and has
an estimated population of 12,000 citizens. It
is located in Jackson County on Interstate 70
approximately fifteen miles east of Kansas City.
There are four major arteries of travel into the
city connecting it with Blue Springs, Oak Grove,
Buckner and Lone Jack.
The Police Department is
comprised of two (2) divisions, Investigations
and Patrol. The
Investigation Division currently has a full-time
detective who is responsible for continued
follow-up of all crimes and complaints that
occur within our city.
The Patrol Division is the
backbone of the department and encompasses the
Canine Unit, and the Special Operations Unit.
The Patrol Division is
commanded by four (4) Sergeants and overseen by
the Chief of Police. The Patrol Division is
divided into four (4) separate squads operating
on rotation twelve (12) hours shifts. Due to the
size of the department it is not uncommon for
one (1) officer to participate in several
different units at the same time.
The
members of the Patrol Division are responsible
for conducting Special Operations. Some examples
would be sobriety checkpoints, undercover
alcohol buy operations, surveillance details and
the serving of search warrants.
The
Patrol Division's primary job is to serve and
protect the community of Grain Valley. The
officers respond to various calls for service
and assist the public on a daily basis. Through
high visibility patrol, proactive enforcement
and aggressive investigations the Grain Valley
Police Department provides a quality Police
service to its citizens.
The
Canine Unit Officer is assigned to a regular
patrol shift and is available for call-out at
any time. He conducts several important duties
to include narcotics detection, suspect
tracking, building and area searches, along with
community demonstrations and education.
The
re-establishment of our Bike Patrol Unit is
currently underway. Grant money has provided the
means of purchasing updated equipment and other
necessities. The officers are certified through
IPMBA (International Police Mountain Bike
Association). These officer's duties include
community relations, traffic enforcement,
special events and saturation patrol in areas
experiencing higher than normal criminal
activity. The Bike Patrol will be an extremely
versatile unit, operating at various times of
the year.
