K-9 Bahno is a seven – (7) year old German Shepherd. Bahno has been with the Grain Valley Police Department since August 2002.  He is trained in narcotics detection, area search, building search, tracking, and aggression control.

In 2006 he and his handler Sgt. Scott Hedger conducted over 15 search warrants with the Jackson County Drug Task Force where numerous narcotics and drug paraphernalia were located.   He also conducted numerous narcotic searches on vehicle stops both in Grain Valley and other jurisdictions.

Sgt. Hedger is a well-respected trainer in the field of police canines.  He trains regularly with several other metro area departments.  During Valley Fair Daze in 2004 Sgt. Hedger coordinated eleven – (11) dogs and their handlers from seven – (7) police departments to present a public demonstration.  The community enjoyed the demonstration and all who attended were very impressed with the skills of the dogs and handlers.  A video of the demonstration was made for future trainings and promotions.

Bahno is a very talented K-9 thanks to the dedication of Sgt. Scott Hedger.  Grain Valley is very fortunate to have a K-9 handler of Sgt. Hedger’s caliber.

Bahno conducts locker and parking lot searches at area schools.  He participated in searches in several different school districts as well as the Grain Valley Schools.

Bahno has also been the feature K-9 at various other demonstrations throughout the community and area.
