The Grain Valley Police Department is comprised
of men and women devoted to providing effective
policing services to all residents of the
community. The department has been faced with
the challenges related to a rapidly growing
community. In 1993 there were 7 officers
serving full-time. In 1998 this number
increased to 11 officers. Currently 18
full-time officers, 2 reserve officers, 3
administrative personnel, 2 victim advocate and
3 volunteers provide a variety of services to
citizens, businesses and visitors of Grain
Valley. The department is committed to
excellence and provides specialized services
including Patrol, Crime Prevention, School
Resource, DARE, Victim Services, Investigations,
and Drug Task Force participation.
The Grain Valley Police Department is recognized
for the innovative concepts brought to local law
enforcement. Grain Valley is one of the few
departments to provide Victim Services at the
local level. This program provides victims of
crime an advocate throughout the criminal
process. Grain Valley also has a Crime
Prevention program that is outstanding. The
implementation of the Victim Services Unit and
the full-time Crime Prevention Program in 2003
can be credited for the 21% reduction of crime
in 2004.
The Patrol Division is also to be commended for
the 2004 reduction in crime. These officers are
key to keeping the streets, neighborhoods and
business districts of Grain Valley protected
from criminal activity. Without this
exceptional patrol division, the other
specialized services would not be effective.
Grain Valley Police is the only department in
the area to have a certified Sexual Harassment
and Rape Prevention (SHARPS) instructor. The
training is made available to citizens several
times each year.
The School Resource Officer program provides
excellent protection and education to the Grain
Valley School District. The rapid growth of the
district can be reflected by the DARE program.
In 1990 there were 30 students who graduated
from the DARE program. This number increased to
204 in 2005.
Grain Valley has also been involved in the State
of Missouri’s effort to become National Incident
Based Reporting System (NIBRS) certified. This
is a program administered by the FBI for the
compilation of crime statistics nation-wide.
Grain Valley was selected by the FBI to provide
the initial test-data required for this
certification. Grain Valley’s technology
program has been instrumental to the State’s
ability to participate in this important
information sharing initiative.
A strong sense of commitment, integrity and
ethics is demonstrated in the men and women of
the Grain Valley Police Department. These
individuals work closely to provide the
excellent police service citizens, business
owners and visitors have grown to expect.
