How do I get in touch with an Officer on the
weekend?
Answer:
If you need an officer between Friday at 6:00 pm
and Monday 7:00 am please call the Jackson
County Sheriff Department at 816-524-4300. They
will dispatch an officer to your location or
have the officer give you a call. For all
emergencies call 911.

When can I get a copy of a report?
Answer:
Generally reports are available 5 – 7 business
days after the initial report was taken unless
the incident is still under investigation.

What are the qualifications to become a police
officer?
Answer:
You must be 21 years of age, a high school
graduate, and a Missouri POST Class A License is
required (www.dps.state.mo.us).

When are the weather sirens tested?
Answer:
Early Warning Sirens will be tested on the first
Wednesday of each month at 11:00 a.m. Sirens
will not be tested during threatening weather.
*When weather conditions warrant the activation
of the Early Warning Siren system, an “all
clear” will not be given. Residents need
to tune into a local radio or TV channel for
information.

officers are notified. If cones and/or
barricades are needed Public Works will also be
notified. Please be respectful of surrounding
houses or streets. If the Police Department
receives complaints of noise or any other
disturbance you may be asked to end your event.

If I lock my keys in my car, can an officer help
me open it?
Answer:
Officers are not authorized to make entries into
vehicles except in emergency situations (i.e.
child locked in car). You should call a
locksmith, a tow company, or your auto club.

How can I obtain a release for my impounded
vehicle?
Answer:
The vehicle will only be released to the
registered owner. If you are the registered
owner, you need to bring your driver’s license
and proof of ownership (i.e. title) to the
police station. An Officer or the
administrative staff will sign the release form
you need to pick up your vehicle.

When am I required to stop for a school bus?
Answer:
A driver shall stop upon meeting or overtaking
from either direction any school bus which has
stopped for the purpose of receiving or
discharging students or other passengers,
signaled by the flashing red lights and stop
arm. A driver shall not proceed until the bus
resumes motion or until signaled by its driver
to proceed.

Is there a curfew?

Persons 16 years and younger shall not be in or
upon any public place within the city between
the hours of 11:00 pm and 5 am Sunday through
Thursday and Midnight and 5:00 am Friday and
Saturday unless accompanied by parent or
guardian or going to or from employment.
