B. Job Summary: Performs maintenance on all City owned
vehicles and equipment. Assists with the
management and tracking of all inventory for Public Works.
C. Job Scope:
Some supervisory and budgetary
responsibilities.
D. Principal
Duties and Responsibilities:
1.
Performs
general repair work of all city owned automotive equipment including automobiles,
trucks, tractors and specialized construction equipment with diesel or gasoline
engines, and hydraulic systems.
2.
Performs
road tests to locate defects in equipment operation.
3.
Test
drives motorized vehicles for mechanical purposes; tests vehicles through use
of testing equipment and knowledge of vehicle operation.
4.
Services
automotive vehicles by filling with gasoline, oil and water. Checks antifreeze, battery water, automatic
transmission fluid, power steering and brake fluid levels.
5.
Changes
oil and filter and greases equipment according to service guides.
6.
Assembles
cooling, fuel and exhaust systems.
7.
Repairs
and overhauls brakes, ignition systems and tunes motors using applicable
testing equipment.
8.
Makes
emergency road calls and makes minor adjustments or tows vehicle to shop.
9.
Changes
wheel bearings, replaces fuses, and lamps.
10.
Picks up parts, delivers
vehicles and runs errands.
11.
Operates basic shop
computer programs to generate work orders.
Looks up parts and vehicle information.
12.
Responds to service work
and related problems that may occur after hours, on weekends, and during
holidays.
13.
Cleans shop area.
E. Skills,
Knowledge and Abilities: -
Skill
in operating tools and equipment.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine
repair and maintenance applicable to automobiles and heavy automotive
equipment. Skills in performing general
maintenance procedures. Ability to follow instructions and complete
assignments. Must have basic computer
skills.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job the
employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or
feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally
required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The
employee is regularly required to lift up to 10 pounds and up to 25 pounds. The
employee is frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds. The employee is
occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds. The vision requirements
include: close vision. While performing
the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The
employee frequently is required to walk and sit. The employee is occasionally
required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands
and arms.

Typical Working
Conditions: While performing the duties of this job the
employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne
particles. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or
caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the environment is loud.
F. Minimum Education, Certification,
and Experience Requirements: High
school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. One to Five years of experience or education in a related field preferred. ASCE certification mandatory.
G. Background check and pre-employment drug
screen conducted prior to appointment.
