Eligibility for Office:
The City’s Municipal Code outlines the eligibility criteria for elected officials as well as the procedures for elections. The information may be found by visiting the City’s website and selecting “Ordinances” on the right hand side of the webpage.
Those interested in becoming a candidate for the position of Mayor must be at least 25 years of age, a citizen of the United States and a resident living in the City for at least one year before his/her election.
Board of Aldermen:
Those interested in becoming a candidate for the position of Alderman must be at least 21 years of age, a citizen of the United States and a resident living in the City for at least one year before his/her election. Additionally, interested parties should also be a resident of the Ward from which he or she is elected.
Running for Office:
Those interested in running for office should work directly with the City Clerk’s office. In order to file for candidacy, several documents must be provided, including:

• Declaration of Candidacy
• Personal Financial Disclosure Notice
• Notice to Candidate: Personal Financial Disclosure Statement
• Proof Of Identification
• Voter Identification Card
• $5.00 Filing Fee
