The mission of the Animal Control division is to provide the citizens of Grain Valley with effective and cost efficient animal services by active enforcement of state and local laws, the humane sheltering and disposal of stray and unwanted animals, and the promotion of responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.
The primary objective of Animal Control staff is to provide quality service to the citizens, while dedicating themselves to improving the co-existence of animals and humans. We are committed to:
- Maintain the highest quality of services to the community.
- Relieve the pain and suffering of animals.
- Promote responsible pet ownership.
- Increase public awareness of animal issues.
- Cooperate with breed rescue / animal welfare organizations.
- Continue training and education for management and staff.

Hours of Operation Monday through Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
On-Call After Hours If you have an Animal Control Emergency after hours please call Jackson County dispatch at 524-4300.The following are considered emergencies:
- Confined stray with a life threatening injury
- Animal posing an immediate threat to public safety
More Information All pets are required to have a Grain Valley Animal License. The tags are only $10 per animal (limit 4) and you can obtain one at City Hall. Please provide a copy of the current rabies vaccination records.All dogs and cats must be:
- Kept within a fully enclosed or fenced area from which they cannot escape
- Securely fastened to a leash not more than 8 feet in length
